The Heatwave Triathlon

I participated in my first athletic competition since college yesterday! We had so much fun. I entered a Triathlon as a part of a relay team. I have learned a lot about these events over the weekend. Apparently this was an Olympic distance event (there are other distances; mini, the ever popular Iron, and half-iron as well), .5 mile swim, 24.5 mile bike, & a 10K run. I competed in the swim leg, so I started out our race. Our team placed 1st in the women's division, my swim was 1st in the Women's relay, which translated into 5th in my age group for the swim. I feel pretty good about my swim, I only got off-course once. I was really surprised how easy it was to get disoriented in the open water. This was also my first ever open water competition. It did make me feel a little better when I began to pass up some men, who started their race in heats at least 4 minutes before me (there were 4 heats and I was in the 4th). It was really fun, I could be an addict, and I think Nate may be interested in trying one as well.

Our team from left: Lucy, Kelly, Michelle

Our team with our trophy's. Our awards were Gail Pittman pottery, very nice. Kelly is holding 2 actually as I couldn't hold my own... I think Will slept on me for about 3 hours.

Kelly and Lucy in transition. We had to exchange an ankle strap with a chip in it at transition. We did so well and had SO much fun. We got to hang out, cook out and go out on the boat after the race - it was a great day!
